LAYERING ESSENTAILS

USING LAYERS OF CLOTHING FOR WARMTH AND VERSATILITY

BASE LAYERS

The base layer is worn next to the skin and its main purpose is to regulate your body temperature by retaining heat and wicking away moisture. On colder days, the base layer is essential for keeping the body warm.

MID LAYER

The mid-layer adds warmth. This warmth is also trapped between the base layer and mid layer. Usually, your mid-layer is either a fleece or jumper. Like a base layer, the mid-layer should be breathable.

INSULATING LAYER

In the cold conditions during the winter, an insulated jacket will be required to add extra warmth and prevent you from being cold and uncomfortable. The insulating layer can be work on top or under the waterproof jacket.

OUTER LAYER

The outer layer gives you protection from the elements. A good outer layer will protect you against wind and rain, while also allowing the moisture and heat from your body to escape so you don’t overheat. The outer layer doesn't need to be waterproof, and can vary depending on the conditions, sometimes a windproof shell will be perfect when out on the hills.
